I am a board-certified and licensed naturopathic physician with a background in clinical and basic science research. My original training was as an organic chemist, specializing in drug design. My BS, from SUNY at Buffalo, is in Medicinal Chemistry. I earned my Master`s degree from Roswell Park Cancer Institute where my research focused on cancer immunology. Later, as a PhD candidate, I studied the regulation of the immune system.

After a number of years teaching AP and Regents chemistry, biology and physics in Buffalo area schools, I met my husband, moved to the West Coast and obtained a doctorate in natural medicine, awarded by the National College of Natural Medicine in 2007. I have served as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NIH/NCCAM)—in fact, I was one of the first naturopathic physicians ever asked to do this important work!

Clinically, I focus on using effective, evidence-based natural methods to maintain your optimum health and wellness. I can and do prescribe drugs, but I will use the lowest dose possible for the shortest time possible to achieve the maximum but safest benefit for you. I work with patients of all ages and with any condition. I can also refer your for various lab tests, some that you can do at home, mail in the tests and get the results online or on your follow-up visit. I will diagnose, treat and refer for any disorder. In Washington, naturopaths are not allowed to diagnose cancer, but I will work with your oncologist before, during and after cancer treatment.

I work with patients to minimize their use of pharmacologic medicines while maximizing their health and wellness using a number of natural alternatives to various prescription medications.

I have also worked with various companies, formulating high-quality, evidence based supplements that can be used to enhance patient’s health and wellness. I have written and published textbooks in botanical medicine, drug-herb interactions, the treatment of alcoholism and addiction, homeopathy and other topics. I write and give talks on various topics, including diets to treat and prevent chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes; the use of bio-identical hormones; women’s health; mind-body medicine and naturopathic approaches to the treatment of addictions.

I am very excited to be opening my practice here in beautiful East Lewis County! I can be contacted at [email protected] or by phone at 360.852.6020.

Why Naturopathic Medicine?

My original training is as a drug design chemist, a cancer researcher and an immunologist. I know and understand drugs: what they do and what they don't do. I also understand that medicines often have side effects that can be damaging. I believe the best, safest and most effective medicine uses all the tools we have available...and the basics of health are in diet, nutrition, rest, stress relief and exercise. Sometimes, we need the benefits of modern medicine-- but the goal is to use the smallest dose for the shortest time.
